Supporting family carers

The family of people that have serious illness have diverse and many needs.  Our research is seeking ways to both support and empower family who are pivotal in the care of their loved one as they approach the end of their life.

Would you join our Carers Matter stakeholder group to help us in this work?

Our projects

Empowerment and education for family carers supporting someone at end-of-life

LOROS Centre for Excellence education and research teams, with support from The Carers Centre, developed, delivered and evaluated learning sessions for family carers. A brief overview of the project can be seen here.

The slides for the four sessions and the links to frequently asked questions are provided below.

We are now working with family carers and carer support organisations to consider how best to make this learning available to others. To get involved or for further details please contact Linda Birt or research@loros.co.uk.

Just-in-Case Injection Medications in the Home

We asked 100 bereaved relatives about their experiences of these injectable medicines. They said  “It’s a great idea but challenging to implement effectively.” You can see a summary of the findings here and more about our projects here.

Because of what we found we have developed a leaflet for family and people with serious illness to explain more about the medications.
