Proceeds from LOROS Lotteries Limited to LOROS

All net proceeds from LOROS Lotteries Limited go directly towards funding the services provided by LOROS, the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice (Registered Charity 506120), which provides free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers.

On average we give LOROS around £750,000 each year. In 2021/2022 £688,914 went back to LOROS as well as over £52,000 in donations. You can feel good knowing that on average 57% of every £1 goes directly towards providing patient care. The remaining 43% goes towards direct running costs, including the prizes. Each year we give out over £175,000 in prizes across our weekly lottery, bi-annual raffles and scratch cards. Expenditure breakdown, prizes 34%; staff, office, building and volunteer 50%; banking and compliance 9% and project and marketing 7%. We consistently review our costs and expenditure to keep these as low as possible. These figures are updated once our final accounts have been audited and published, this should be in October each year.

Since launching in 1996 we have given over £15,000,000 to LOROS directly from supporters playing our lottery, raffles and scratch card games.

Odds of winning

Chances of winning, in 2021/2022 there were on average 20,817 lottery players per week, with the same 55 cash prizes per week as previous years were available to win. Odds of winning 1 in 378.

For our scratch cards there is a 1 in 4.54 chance of winning a prize.

In our Spring into Summer Raffle 2022: 43,698 tickets were entered into the draw with the option of 7 cash prizes. The chance of winning a prize was 1 in 6,242.

In our Winter Warmer Raffle 2021: 61,170 tickets were entered in the draw with the option of 12 cash prizes. Average odds of winning a prize: 1 in 5098.

Lottery winners are selected by a random number generator in our lottery software; donorflex Lottery is fully licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission and their Random Number Generator has been independently tested, using a variety of industry-standard statistical tests. The independent tests were carried out by a Gambling Commission approved test house which is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Carn is the raffle company used by LOROS Lotteries Limited. The draw is completed through Carn’s DrawMaster software. At the close draw stage (end of fast replay and at the end of the raffle on the draw day), all of the tickets that are eligible to go into the draw are selected. Each eligible ticket is saved into a separate “Draw” file and allocated a random position. Once all of the tickets are in the separate “Draw” file, another random number is generated and the position is reallocated to match this number. At the make draw stage, a random number between 1 and the total number of records in the “Draw” file is generated and this equals a winner’s position.

For further information on this please refer to our terms and conditions.
