This is Amanda from Blaby, a recent LOROS Lottery winner. We had the pleasure of visiting her to deliver her £2,000 cheque, and she was quite simply over the moon!
Amanda joined the LOROS Lottery 10 years ago, after losing her beloved Dad, Dave, to a brain tumour in February 2008. Dave was "a hero, simply the best" say his daughters.
Amanda adds, "Dad spent his final 6 weeks at LOROS, who were just amazing, supporting us and Dad through this unbelievably difficult and traumatic time."
She went on to say that as a family they support LOROS whenever they can. She is running the Leicester half marathon this year to raise money, alongside her sister and her husband. Her niece, Olivia, has also volunteered at the Hospice.
Amanda works in the Radiotherapy Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, so sees first hand the level of care and emotional support that is needed at what can be a very scary time for patients and their families.
She said that she was shocked and absolutely delighted to receive the winners call from the Lottery Office. She adds, "We started work on our patio around 4 years ago, and have always found reasons not to finish it. Now that we have this amazing opportunity, we’re going to finally finish the patio, so I can sit there in the summer and raise a glass to my Dad."
