We need to talk about death

We prepare for birth, why not death?

As part of national Dying Matters Week 2019, we’re holding a ground breaking event to shine a light on a subject that’s too often ignored – death.

We can promise it won’t be boring and it won’t be sad. It’ll be a frank, informal and even upbeat conversation about life’s one certainty.

Hosted by Virgin Radio presenter Amy Voce and featuring Dr Kathryn Mannix, author of bestselling book With the End in Mind, this FREE event will make you think differently about death. Kathryn will guide us through the different stages of end of life and show that, in her experience, death is mostly neither frightening nor painful, and helping all of us to talk about it is the first step to acceptance and understanding.

With music on arrival, bubbly, cake and goody bags, this is the event you can't afford to miss.

Dr Kathryn Mannix has spent her medical career working with people who have incurable, advanced illnesses. Starting in cancer care and changing career to palliative medicine, she has worked as a palliative care consultant in teams in hospices, hospitals and in patients’ own homes, optimising quality of life as death is approaching. She is the author of With the End in Mind where she argues passionately that it’s time to re-claim public understanding of dying; understand what the process is, and how it allows us to plan during the last part of our lives. Her book, which received rave reviews, been called, “Essential reading for anyone who will encounter death, and that means all of us” (The Times).

Leicester born and bred, Amy Voce presented an award winning breakfast show on Gem 106 before her current stint on Virgin Radio. She has been a supporter of LOROS for many years.
