‘It’s light and spacious – it’s just fantastic’ - The opening of our brand new Day Therapy and Outpatients department

LOROS has opened its doors to a brand new Day Therapy and Outpatients department.

These highly anticipated facilities have been in development for almost a year and will allow LOROS to care for an extra 250 patients a year with the very best end of life care.

Day Therapy provides a one stop shop for patients who can access trained nurses, specialist doctors but also creative therapies and fun.

The new building is a calm, friendly environment where patients can relax, take part in arts and crafts, play games and even have a massage.

For patients that are housebound, Day Therapy is a place where they can meet friends, exchange news and have a laugh.

David Johnson, 50, who is living with Parkinson’s disease, has been visiting Day Therapy regularly for three years. He said: “It’s beautiful and modern and so big. The old facilities got a bit hot and crowded. These have really exceeded my expectations.”

Dad-of-six, Richard Furniss, 76, has attended the LOROS Hospice Day Therapy Unit every fortnight for the past year after being diagnosed with heart failure and prostate cancer. Richard said: “It’s so light and spacious, it’s just fantastic. It will make a lot of difference to patients.”

David Hibbin, 81, who attends Day Therapy after being diagnosed with heart failure, said: “A great deal of thought has gone into this and it’s probably the best facility I’ve ever seen. There will be room for so many more patients, that’s so important.”

John Knight, LOROS CEO said, “These outstanding new facilities will give us the space we need to support more patients and their families. They will allow us to offer new wellbeing sessions and cater for patients with more complex needs too.”

“This has been an exciting year for LOROS and our staff and volunteers look forward to welcoming all our new patients and their families to these fantastic new facilities.” The opening of the new Day Therapy and Outpatients department completes the second phase of the LOROS site development, which began last year with the construction of a Professional Development Centre.

LOROS would like to thank a number of private individuals, Trusts, including the Wolfson Foundation, and kind supporters, without whom the construction of the Day Therapy and Outpatients department would not have been possible.
