Local businesses have once again competed for the win in this year’s annual table tennis tournament for LOROS.

Organised by HSBC, more than 16 organisations helped raise nearly £3,000 for the Hospice by taking part in the competition, which is in its eighth year.

The tournament, which is held over four weeks each year, has now raised an accumulative total of £22,750, which is enough to pay for the care of three patients on the LOROS ward for a year.

Dave Welch, HSBC Area Director, East Midlands Business Banking, said: “It is great to see this tournament continues to remain so popular amongst the Leicestershire professional community, this year has seen some excellent competition with a chance to network while having some fun along the way.

“We are delighted to have been able to support Leicester’s LOROS Hospice once more and are already looking forward to next year’s competition.”

The eagerly awaited tournament was organised by Graham Brown, Relationship Director at HSBC Bank PLC Corporate and aided by his new committee member, Richard Anderson, Agriculture Manager at HSBC Bank PLC HBEU.

Those battling it out for first place included Grant Thornton, Magma, Weightmans, Spearing Waite, BHW, McIntyre Hudson, Gateley, Mazar's, HSBC, Howes Percival, Nelson's, TorrWaterfield, BDO, Newby Castleman, RSM and Edward Hands & Lewis.

“The two eight team leagues fought some hard battles to reach the final, which was won by Magma. Huge congratulations to them,” added Dave.

As well as through entry fees, money was also raised by participants playing ‘Guess the LOROS lion cub weight’, which had an evening escape for two at Ragdale Hall up for grabs for the winner.

Magdalena Korytkowska, Partnership Development Lead at LOROS, said: "This year’s HSBC Table Tennis tournament has been another fantastic fundraiser for the Hospice and judging by the atmosphere in the rooms and the informative weekly updates by Graham, has been competitive and great fun.

"Graham continues to organise an event which many businesses jostle to be a part of each year and his commitment to raising funds for LOROS, along with the teams involved, is greatly appreciated by everyone at the Hospice.

“A huge, huge thank you to everyone involved.”
