An enthusiastic crowd of onlookers braved freezing conditions yesterday to watch Leicester Market’s Pancake Day fun.

Leicester Market traders, police community support officers and Hastings Direct, took part in a relay race where they were required to flip pancakes at various intervals. There were cheers from the crowd as they raced around the Market Place.

The event was in aid of LOROS Hospice, which provides care to terminally ill patients.

About £100 was donated by the market traders along with sales of pancakes available throughout the morning and afternoon for just £1.

LOROS mascot Lionel the lion was also on hand to cheer on the teams with the Market Traders team clinching top spot.

Adam Piotrowski, Development Officer at Leicester Market, said: “It’s great to see people come out and join in the fun, especially on a very cold day. It’s a lot of fun to take part and it’s for a great cause.”

Debbie Dickman, Fundraising Co-ordinator for LOROS, said: “Events like these are great because it gets us out and about in the community and reminds people of the good work we do at LOROS and other events we have.”
