Bob Fletcher succumbed to complications arising from lung cancer, aged 72, on June 21. He left four children and Sue,72, his wife of more than 30 years.

Bob's children, Richard Thorp, Matt Fletcher, Caroline Brewin and Lucy Rose, along with their spouses, Jo Thorp, Clare Fletcher, Karl Brewin and Alan Rose, have divided themselves into two relay teams to run the Cummins Relay Challenge, as part of Sunday's marathon.

Richard, who now lives in Monmouth, said: "We cannot thank LOROS enough for all it did for our father. The staff were amazing, the care first rate and the compassion and understanding shown by everyone who came into contact with Dad was nothing short of remarkable.

"Bob was our dad and an amazing man, popular too, so we hope to raise a good figure. "We are over £2,000 with online and paper sponsorship, so it is going well so far, but we want to get at least another grand. We were all together in LOROS to support Dad at the end of his life and it feels right that now we'll all be together in Leicester to raise money for this fantastic hospice.

AFTERNOTE - the family have now broken through the £4k barrier but are still accepting donations until 1st January

"Dad was a good friend to so many people, not just in Leicestershire and throughout the UK, but also across Europe thanks to his work in the Northampton shoe trade.

A big fan of cricket, rugby, a pint and a few laughs, he was a man his friends could rely upon and turn to in difficult times - he always had a word of friendly advice should it be sought. He was well-loved and is sorely missed, so we are hoping to raise a lot of money.

The team names are 'Bobbin Along' and 'For the Love of Bob'.
