About this course

This half day workshop for registered nurses and nursing associates builds on foundation level communications skills and is designed to improve confidence and skills in communicating with patients and families about serious illness and dying. The interactive format of the session includes group work, videos and practice sessions with other delegates in a safe and supportive environment. Topics included in the session are:

• Listening and questioning skills-good practice tips and hints

• Blocking behaviours-what stops a conversation

• Dealing with challenging questions at the end of life

• Having open honest discussions about serious illness

By the end of this session delegates will have:

• Enhanced communication skills

• Increased confidence and skills to answer challenging questions from patients and their carers

• Increased confidence to initiate end of life discussions

• Fully funded by Health Education England East Midlands for primary care staff across LLR.
