The Education Department at LOROS have been presented with a ‘Special Recognition Award’ by Health Education England, the third award the Hospice has scooped up in just a year.

The team at LOROS received the award for their contribution to education in the health sector, during an ‘Excellence in Education’ awards ceremony that took place on Friday.

The award comes just months after it was announced that LOROS was the first hospice in the country to receive two national prestigious awards, which were the Skills for Health Quality Mark and the City and Guild Accreditation Centre status.

LOROS Director of Education and Workforce Mandy Motley said: “I’m really proud of the team, we weren’t expecting it at all.

“It was nice for our team to be recognised. Understandably and quite rightly, it’s usually the front of line members of staff, like the ward nurses, who are recognised for their care, so it’s great for our team to feel a sense of recognition for what we contribute to LOROS too.

“The award completes a trio of recognition we have received in the past 12 months and the timing could not be better, especially with the building of the Professional Development Centre at LOROS well underway.”

The awards ceremony, which took place on Friday at Holywell Park Conference Centre, in Loughborough, included a number of different categories, with dozens of health organisations and individuals from the East Midlands nominated across the board.

“There were nurses, doctors, consultants, carers and patients who attended the ceremony,” added Mandy.

“I felt very privileged to be part of such a varied group, who are all making such a difference to the health and social care workforce.”

Every year, the Education team trains more than 2,000 internal and external health and social care professionals.

Last year, the Hospice received the Skills for Health Quality Mark, showcasing the positive experiences of their learners, stakeholder relationships, robust quality systems and high-quality teaching.

They were also given the City and Guild Accreditation Centre status for their end of life care programmes, allowing them to award qualifications to staff and volunteers, as well as professionals across the region.
