A recent Ladies Night, held at the Abbey Sports and Leisure Centre in Leicester has raised a further £2,373.60 for LOROS and raised their total to a massive £26,873.60.

The event, now in its 8th year, is organised in memory of sisters Roseanne Higgins, Mary Sweeney and Lily Cusack.

Roseanne spent her final days at LOROS and her family and friends were so impressed and grateful for the wonderful care she received that they vowed to raise funds for the Hospice.

A spokesman for the event said: "Back in 2009 we held our first event at the Stamford Arms, and we would like to thank all the local businesses in Groby for continuing to support our fundraising efforts year after year even though our venue as now moved to pastures new.

"In 2013 we were invited to use Abbey Sports and Leisure Centre, in Slater Street, Leicester. We would like to say a huge thank you to them for continuing to provide their premises and service free of charge so that we can maximise the profit we make for LOROS; their support is invaluable.

"Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their fish and chip supper courtesy of local Chippy, Bucks on Buckminster Road. We also owe a huge thank you to NEXT, Sainsbury’s Fosse Park and Aldi, who once again supported us with excellent raffle prizes and Santander who so generously price match our funds.

"We rely totally on the support from our tremendous volunteers, family and friends and thanks must go to the doormen, waiters and ticket sellers; to DJ Bob and our many wonderful front line performers and everyone who so generously give their time for this very, very special cause.

"Stu Holmes, our exceedingly successful raffle ticket salesman, retires this year; we will miss him but wish him a very happy retirement and sincere thanks for his amazing support over the years.

"Finally, our fundraising would not be possible without the attendance of our lovely ladies, who return year after year, to share our eventful evenings - thank you all so very much; we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Debbie Dickman, Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS added: "I was thrilled to be invited to represent LOROS at this well supported community fundraiser for the Hospice and I had a fantastic evening.

"The £26,873.60 this amazing team have raised for the Hospice so far, could pay for the cost of one of our specialist nurses for 38 weeks.

"That is a wonderful achievement and I hope everyone involved is justifiably proud of what they have accomplished.

"I would like to say a massive, massive thank you on behalf of everyone at LOROS."
