A chance encounter between two old work colleagues has resulted in a partnership and nearly £50,000 being raised for LOROS Hospice.

Global Payments, in Leicester, have spent the past year organising and taking part in a variety of fundraising activities, as well as hosting their own a LOROS donation station in their office.

The fundraising came after Elaine Godber, who is now the Corporate and Communications Relations Co-ordinator at LOROS, bumped in to former colleague Simon Lane, who works for Global Payments.

Corporate Fundraising Co-ordinator Magdalena Kortykowska said. "This has been an incredible partnership and we have all enjoyed working with the staff at Global Payments over the last 12 months.”

From cake and samosa sales, dress down days, helping out at the LOROS warehouse and taking part in the charity’s annual Twilight Walk, the Global Payments team have been fundraising for LOROS for the past year.

The 'Grand Finale' to their year of fundraising activities was the big ‘Global Peddlers Tour de Leicestershire’, which saw the staff cycling 175 miles around the county, bringing their fundraising total to an amazing £44,665.

Their Donation Station raised a further estimated £3,500 bringing their combined grand total to a staggering £48,165.00.

Magda added: “The money they have raised could pay for the cost of one of our specialist nurses to look after our inpatients for 16 months and we would like to say a huge, huge thank you for their truly amazing support.”
