Leicester City Ambassador Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall is helping LOROS launch this year’s Hospice Care Week by taking the Premier League trophy in to the organisation.

Birch, who is a Patron of LOROS, will be giving staff, volunteers, patients and families the chance to have their photo with the trophy on Monday, which is the start of Hospice Care Week.

The extra special visit has been organised by Birch and Leicester City Football Club, as a thank you to staff and volunteers for their hard work, as well as giving some of the patients and their families this once in a lifetime opportunity.

“As a very proud Patron of LOROS, I wanted to give staff and volunteers this one off opportunity, as well as the patients too,” said Birch.

"I was there 31 years ago when the first brick was laid and as a Patron, especially over the past few months, I really have realised what an amazing place the Hospice is."

The cup will be in the social area of the Hospice for staff, volunteers, patients and their families to take photos with from 10am until midday.

Birch added: “This really is a small gesture compared to the work the staff do at LOROS and this is a big thank you from me and the football club.”

Birch will also be attending the turf cutting ceremony at LOROS on that day to mark the official start of the Hospice’s £6 million extension.

Over the next two years, a two-phase extension will be taking place, which will include the building of a brand new Professional Development Centre.

The day therapy service will also be expanded during the second phase of the project, which will mean an additional 250 patients will be able to benefit from the Hospice’s services.

The Premier League trophy photo opportunity and the turf cutting are just two of a whole host of exciting events taking place throughout the week at LOROS to help celebrate Hospice Care Week.
