A man has completed the Three Peak Challenge and raised more than £1,000 in memory of a childhood friend he grew up with, after he died at LOROS Hospice.

Bobby Bunker, of Coalville has recently climbed three mountains and raised £1,200 for LOROS after his school friend, Mick Toon died there last year.

Now, Mick’s wife, Jane has said how proud she is of Bobby for ensuring her husband’s memory lives on.

“Bobby has given up so much of his time to train for the Three Peaks Challenge and then complete it, I am so proud of him,” said Jane.

Bobby completed the Three Peaks Challenge in June, which included climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

“He saw what LOROS did for us and now he said he wanted to do this for LOROS,” added 49-year-old Jane.

Father-of-two Mick, 49, was unexpectedly diagnosed with lung cancer in June 2014, when he was given the devastating news that it was terminal.

Jane said: “He did have two types of chemotherapy but neither seemed to help.

“By Christmas, the cancer had spread and after New Year, it all went downhill.”

Mick went into LOROS early last year, where he spent four days, before dying on 20th January.

“Mick hadn’t walked in days and then, when we got to LOROS, he walked in himself; it was quite unbelievable to be honest, it was like he knew that he should be there.

“LOROS is brilliant and everyone there is just so kind.

“When somebody close to you is poorly, you lose who you are. I started being my husband’s carer, we weren’t husband and wife anymore but thanks to LOROS, over those last few days, I felt like Mick’s wife again.”
