On Sunday, 14th September, The Severn Trent Water Visitor Centre at Cropston was a hub of activity for the Annual LOROS Walk on the Wildside sponsored walk, where over 400 people turned out in support.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Paul Day and his Mayoress Mrs Pauline Day officially opened the walk together with the Leicester City’s mascot Filbert Fox.

This year there were three routes to choose from – a 5 mile and 11 mile walk and a new toddler trail. Everyone also had the opportunity to browse stalls and children’s activities, and there were a variety of food outlets where walkers and their supporters could refuel.

Christian Weikert-Picker, LOROS fundraiser said: “This event meant a huge amount to the walkers – most were carrying out the walk in memory of loved ones. The support that has been shown for the event is amazing.

"We've had more signups on the day this year than ever before and it is fantastic to see so many people coming along, keeping fit and supporting the Hospice. The conditions were ideal for walking – not too hot and not too cold. There were smiles from all participants in particular from those taking part in the new toddler trail, finding clues and exploring nature, it was a great family day.

“We are looking at a pledge in excess of £20,000 through sponsorship, which will make a huge difference to the running of the Hospice. This is one of our major fundraising events in the calendar – well done to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a huge success.”

All money raised will ensure LOROS continues to provide care and support to terminally ill patients and their families living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
