Leicester City Football Club visit LOROS

19/03/2010 - Pearson, his backroom staff and most of the Leicester City first team squad visited LOROS on Friday to meet staff, volunteers and patients, and take a tour around the hospice.

As the official charity for Leicester City this season, our logo appears on the current Foxes away strip and the LOROS fixture against Queens Park Rangers will be held at the Walkers Stadium on Easter Monday, April 5th.

City’s Manager, Nigel Pearson, continued to show his support by joining Club Ambassador, Alan Birchenall MBE, as a LOROS Patron.

Pearson and his backroom staff took part in a bike ride for LOROS in November last year as they cycled from Newcastle to Carlisle, raising over £3,000 and Nigel was delighted that the players were able to witness first-hand all the great work that the staff and volunteers do.

“It was something that we’ve been thinking about doing for a while. I think it’s important for the players to have some sort of an idea of what LOROS is all about. I think it’s been a good day for the people that work here and a good day for the players to see how things are run.”

At the beginning of the afternoon, Fundraising Manager, Diane Morris announced that Pearson is to become a Patron and Nigel was honoured to be asked.

“I am delighted to be involved in what is a fabulous facility and the people who work here are great. I was quite surprised to be asked and of course I’m delighted and I feel very privileged.”

City goalkeeper Chris Weale agreed that it was important for the players to take the time out to visit LOROS.

“We knew at the start of the season that LOROS would be on our away shirt, but coming here really opens up everyone’s eyes to what they do. It’s a fantastic cause and to be part of that is great for Leicester City.

“It can only help the players because if we know a bit more about the community it helps you become a better person as well.”

Peru international winger Nobby Solano, who has recently been filling in at right-back after joining the club in January, echoed those sentiments.

“We’re glad to be here and also it’s very special for the club to be involved in these kinds of things. It’s sad to see people come here, but we’re very happy to be here this afternoon and spend a few minutes of our time with the staff and the patients.”

At the Leicester City LOROS fixture against QPR, a bucket collection will take place ahead of the game and fans can donate unwanted items such as clothes, books or bric-a-brac to be sold in the LOROS Shops.

Diane Morris said “It was amazing that so many of the Leicester City Players and Coach Staff gave up their valuable time to visit LOROS. It gave a great boast to patients, volunteers and staff. We are thrilled that Nigel Pearson has agreed to become a LOROS Patron.”
