It's time to get out the trainers - or even the wellies - for Leicestershire's muddiest fun run. The Farmyard Frolics 10km event will take place in woodland in the grounds of Brooksby Melton College's Spinney Campus, to raise funds for the Leicester Mercury LOROS Appeal. Organisers are aiming to get more than 300 people taking part to raise up to £5,000 for our appeal for the hospice's new extension.

Participants will have to be prepared to get dirty as well as tired, with a host of obstacles to tackle, as well as lots of mud and water. The run takes place on Sunday, March 21, starting at 11am, and LOROS corporate fund-raiser Marisa Spiteri is taking on the challenge.

She said: "It's going to be a great day. As always, I am so thankful to all the people of Leicestershire who are working hard to raise funds for LOROS. If you anyone wants to get involved please get in touch and I will endeavour to help in any way."The Farmyard Frolics run was held annually for several years until 2009, when the event was cancelled.

This year, organisers Quest Events have taken over running it to support LOROS. Director Mark Booton is hoping to expand the event next year. He said: "It's quite a competitive course but it's open to everyone, from beginners to serious athletes. We took over organising it this year and we wanted to support the Leicester Mercury's fund-raising towards the new extension."

The Leicester Mercury LOROS Appeal was launched in November, with the aim of helping the hospice raise the remaining £450,000 for its £2m extension, which opened in October. The total stands at just under £198,000.
