LOROS specialises in holistic, multidisciplinary care, focused on the whole person and this includes the family and carers. The care given takes into account the patients' physical, psychological and spiritual needs as well as their own choices. Support for family members in adjusting to loss and bereavement is included.

Inpatient

Many people think of a hospice solely in terms of beds, and at LOROS the inpatient unit is the main focus of the care provided. This is a short-stay unit.

Outreach

LOROS also puts resources into enabling patients to remain in their own homes. This support may be provided actually in the home through:

  • LOROS Community Clinical Nurse Specialists Team - providing support and advice for patients at home;
  • LOROS Family Support - home visits and bereavement support.

Outpatient

Care and support, which is provided at the hospice or the Palliative Day Therapy Unit, may give the assistance necessary for the patient to remain in his/her own home.

  • Day Care attendance (at Manor Croft) - providing support for patients and a break for carers;
  • Outpatient appointments - consultation at the hospice or day unit (Manor Croft) with a specialist doctor.

Other services available are:

  • Counselling - one-to-one support (short-term) is provided for patients and family members;
  • Complementary Therapies - a range of treatments is available to patients, either when inpatients or if coming from home to the hospice or to Manor Croft;
  • Lymphoedema Clinics - The charity also provides clinics and treatments for patients with Lymphoedema.  These are specialist clinics held at the hospice;
  • Chaplaincy - There is a team of chaplains and spiritual care providers to meet the needs of the patients.

Details of all these services are given in this section.
