Volunteers are an important part of LOROS' daily life at the hospice, the Palliative Day Therapy Unit (Manor Croft), in fundraising and in the LOROS shops. At the hospice and at the Palliative Day Therapy Unit volunteers contribute in a variety of ways including reception, hairdressing and beauty care, snack bar and flower arranging.

Volunteers using their own cars or driving one of the LOROS vehicles also assist in transporting patients to and from their homes.

There is also a Home Visiting Service in which volunteers may take part. This service allows carers time away from the home environment without worrying about patients being left alone. Volunteer Bereavement Visitors offer practical and emotional support to carers and relatives at the time of their bereavement.

Prospective volunteers, who must be aged eighteen years or over, are sought to give regular and reliable commitment of their time.

LOROS will require completion of an application form, provision of references together with Criminal Records Bureau clearance. After an initial interview and discussion volunteers are assigned to a particular area of service within LOROS.  On-going guidance, advice and support for the volunteers is available.

If you can offer some time whether weekly, fortnightly or monthly we shall be interested to hear from you.
